It all started on the 15th of Shevat 5731, where the Rebbe announced by a surprise Farbrengen that it has come the time to conquer the world with the study of Torah! With these words, the Rebbe essentially laid the groundwork for what would later become known as Mivtza Torah.

The next time the Rebbe mentioned the idea of Mivtza Torah was on Shabbos Parshas Miketz 5734, the Rebbe encouraged people who have not yet joined the Shturem of Mivtza Torah to get on board!

On Tes-Vov Sivan 5734, the Rebbe said that one of the reasons for this Farbrengen is to strengthen the Shturem in the (then) five Mivtzoyim and especially the Mivtza of Torah and Mezuzah. The Rebbe spoke about making set times for learning Torah and said that this will surely give anyone many Berachos and the Bracho of long life.

The following week on Shabbos Parshas Shelach 5734, the Rebbe spoke about the Mivtza in more detail specifying what the Rebbe expected and wanted from the Mivtza.

Sichos Kodesh (Seif Beis)

On Beis Tammuz, Shabbos Parshas Korach the Rebbe began to speak about a new aspect to Mivtza Torah: Building Mosdos of Torah. The Rebbe spoke at length about the (then) five Mivtzoyim (especially Mivtza Mezuzah) after bringing up the well known Taineh of Korach that a Bayis Maleh Seforim doesn't need a Mezuzah.

On Yud Beis Tammuz that year the Rebbe spoke about a story of the Frierdiker Rebbe writing notes on the Mammer he said that year on Shavous and connected it with Mivtza Torah. The Rebbe as well connected stories of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s imprisonment to all of the (then) five Mivtzoyim.

On Shabbos Parshas Balak, Tes-Zayin Tammuz, the Rebbe continued to speak about making Mosdos of Torah from Parshas Balak.

On Simchas Torah of 5735, the Rebbe spoke about the Talmidim that left home to go to a Makom Torah and explained how that is also connected to the Inyan of Mivtza Torah.

On Rosh Chodesh Adar the Rebbe connected Mivtza Torah to the Yom-Tov of Purim and stressed its effect in this world.

On Rosh Chodesh Iyar 5735, the Rebbe spoke about the power of Mivtza Torah, adding that if you contemplate on it for a moment you will understand the importance.

On Shabbos Parshas Naso 5735, the Rebbe spoke about how every single Yid is capable of learning Torah and encouraged the Chassidim to join the campaign.

On Tes-Vov Av 5736, the Rebbe called on the Chassdiim for a Hosafa in Limud Hatorah.

On Chai Elul 5735, the Rebbe explained how Mivtza Torah includes all the other Mivtzoim because Torah leads to action.

On Parshas Tztzaveh 5737, the Rebbe while discussing Purim made a connection to Mivtza Torah and explained why it's called a Mivtza.

The Rebbe spoke about it again, on Lag Ba’omer 5737, explaining how Mivtza Torah is a great preparation for Matan Torah. The Rebbe went on to discuss the power of Limud Hatorah, how it makes a Yid free. The Rebbe finished off with a new focus, to bring Mivtza Torah to hospitals and correctional facilities.

On Motzei Shabbos Parshas Bamidbar 5739, the Rebbe said the now famous line, “if you know Alef, teach Alef,” encouraging people to join the Mivtza Torah campaign even if they don't have much to teach, because from here they will grow.

On Chof Cheshvan 5741, the Rebbe stressed the importance of Mivtza Torah, adding that even if your friend would only agree to learn with you because you want him to, it is still worth it.
